Dr. Chow is the founder of Chow Surgical LLC (Phoenix, AZ), where he serves as faculty for American fellows and where he is the Fellowship Director for an ISAKOS-accredited international fellowship in hip & knee surgery. He is also the National Medical Director of Orthopaedics for the Tenet Healthcare system, the 3rd largest for-profit hospital system in the US. Tenet Healthcare is the parent company for the Abrazo, Carondelet, and USPI Healthcare systems in Arizona.
Dr. Chow has been named the “Best Orthopedic Surgeon” in the 2020 Readers’ Choice, a “Top Doctor” in AZ Top Docs in 2020, Castle Connolly’s “Top Doc” since 2020, a “Top Doc” in 2016 by the International Association of Orthopedic Surgeons, the “Physician of the Year” for 2014 by the AZ Business Magazine and appointed as one of the influential “40 under 40” for 2013 by the Phoenix Business Journal. Dr. Chow’s work in minimally-invasive, fast-recovery, and robotic surgery has attracted attention from his peers, media and governmental health officials.
Dr. Chow has been a key inventor of the SuperPATH total hip procedure, a microinvasive total hip replacement technique. Its foundation originates from two previous tissue-sparing techniques: PATH® (created by Dr. Brad Penenberg ) and SuperCap™ (created by Dr. Stephen Murphy) The first SuperPATH® procedures were performed in September 2008 as a collaboration between Dr. Chow, Dr. Harbinder Chadha & Dr. William Kurtz.
Dr. Chow’s work in technique and tooling design is now patented in multiple countries and comprises key components of SuperPATH’s current form. He has lectured internationally regarding his experience with microinvasive total hip replacement, and he routinely trains surgeons on the technique. As of 2022, Dr. Chow has performed over 4,000 SuperPATH total hip procedures.
Dr. Chow is a lead designer for robotic surgery. He was Arizona’s first robotic knee surgeon, performing Arizona’s first Makoplasty partial knee resurfacing in 2010, Arizona’s first NAVIO unicondylar knee in 2015, and the world’s first robotic ACL/PCL sparing total knee in 2016. Dr. Chow has also performed the world’s first robotically-assisted revision total knee replacement and the world’s first robotic hinged total knee replacement in 2017 and 2018 respectively. More recently, he has helped develop and launch CORI, performing the world’s first CORI surgery, which was an ACL/PCL sparing total knee replacement in 2020.
Currently Dr. Chow consults for the Arizona Medical Board. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Academy of Hip and Knee Surgeons, the International Society for Technology in Arthroplasty, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the International Society of Arthroscopy for Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and the International Society for Computer Assisted Orthopaedic Surgery. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Chow Research Foundation.
