Dr. Ahsan is a board-certified cardiologist who, in his 25+ years practicing medicine, has developed the philosophy that an individual seeking prosperity in this field must be compassionate towards patients and dedicated to their unique needs. Currently, he practices at the Nevada Heart & Vascular Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. As the leading group in Southern Nevada, Nevada Heart & Vascular Center provides comprehensive cardiac and vascular services. The experienced medical team working there designs the best treatment plans available in order for patients to receive the best outcome possible.
Before joining Nevada Heart & Vascular Center, Dr. Ahsan was an Associate Professor and the Director of Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center. Now, he serves as a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Medicine and the Director of Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories and Cardiovascular Research at University Medical Center. He takes a special interest in building cardiovascular interventional clinics and research programs in developing countries and has led teams of U.S. physicians, technologists, and nurses to exchange work experiences there.
Among the doctor’s many achievements, he is the founding Program Director of the Cardiology Fellowship Program at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Medicine and under his leadership, the program has established itself in collaboration with University Medical Center, Nevada Heart & Vascular Center, and VA Medical Center. This is the only Cardiology Fellowship Program in the state of Nevada.
A native of Bangladesh, Dr. Ahsan received his medical degree from Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, where he was awarded the Gold Medal in Medicine. He then went on to receive the prestigious Commonwealth Scholarship, completing his PhD in Clinical Pharmacology/General Medicine at the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom. This was followed by postgraduate training in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease at the University of Pennsylvania and Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, as well as a fellowship in interventional cardiology at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York.
In addition to being a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the doctor is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and interventional cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine – a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. Moreover, he is board-certified in nuclear cardiology by the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology.
A Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a Fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions, Dr. Ahsan was awarded the Young Investigators’ Award by the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology in 2001 and by the American Society of Echocardiography in 2004.
Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as some parts of the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. Cardiologists are doctors who diagnose, assess, and treat patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels (the cardiovascular system).
When he is not teaching, Dr. Ahsan likes to spend his free time reading historical and biographical literature amongst other works of non-fiction, as well as traveling. He and his wife, Selina, a neurologist at Las Vegas VA Medical Center, have two sons.
