Dr. Bockbrader is a medical doctor specializing in the care of patients who want to optimize their health and well-being, even if they have chronic injuries or chronic disease. She holds board certifications in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and Brain Injury Medicine through the American Board of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. She also is board certified in Addiction Medicine through the American Board of Preventative Medicine. She is certified by the American Academy of PM&R in mild TBI and sports concussion. She is trained in Functional Medicine through the Institute for Functional Medicine. She has a PhD in Psychological and Brain Sciences (Indiana University) and is an expert in reading brain rhythms on EEG and providing personalized neuromodulation. As a physiatrist, Dr. Bockbrader's focus is on whole person care. Dr. Bockbrader may treat patients through a variety of methods including medications and supplements, neuromodulation (like transcranial magnetic stimulation and/or transcranial direct current stimulation), manual therapies (like manual lymphatic drainage, therapeutic ultrasound, low level laser therapy, and other forms of light therapy), lifestyle coaching, diet and/or exercise prescriptions, motivational interviewing, psychosocial interventions and more, depending on each individual case.   • Dr. Marcie was a Division III college athlete, playing both volleyball and basketball prior to developing complications of Crohn's disease. She is an ovarian cancer survivor, yarn hoarder, and enjoys knitting and crocheting.

Areas of research

Dr. Bockbrader has published on neurorehabilitation technology and cognitive neuroscience techniques translated for use in clinical populations. Her interests include minimizing disability through humanistic application of neurotechnology. She has technical expertise in neuropsychological assessment, structured clinical interviewing, EEG analytics, brain-computer interfaces, functional imaging, and non-invasive brain stimulation. She has been a PI or co-PI for clinical trials of navigated rTMS, tDCS, and brain-computer interface technologies in clinical populations. Her research has been featured in publications such as Cell, Nature, Psychiatry Research, Neuropsychology, and Archives of PM&R as well as in popular media and news outlets, including The Washington Post, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Scientific American Mind, Popular Mechanics, Wired, NPR, CNN, BBC News, Mashable, HBO Vice, Dr. Sanjay Gupta’s blog on Everyday Health and at SXSW Interactive 2016.
