James J. Vopal, DDS, MD, FACS, is an established oncologist and breast cancer specialist with The Breast Care Center, Treasure Coast in Stuart. Dr. Vopal received his Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from the University of Wisconsin, and his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Marquette University School of Dentistry. He then earned his medical degree from the University Of Miami School Of Medicine. He went on to Residencies in the Department of Surgery at the University of Miami School of Medicine/Jackson Memorial Hospital, first in the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and subsequently in the Division of General and Vascular Surgery. Dr. Vopal is a Fellow of the American College of Surgery. He became a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery in 1986 and re-certified as a Diplomate in 1996. He is also certified by the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. He has served as the Medical Director of the Breast Care Center of the Treasure Coast since 1994. He has also been Chief of Surgery and President of the Medical Staff at Martin Memorial Hospital in Stuart. In addition, Dr. Vopal holds an affiliate membership at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute. Dr. Vopal is on the Board of Directors for the American Cancer Society in Martin County and a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, American Medical Association, American Society of Endocrine Surgeons, Florida Medical Association, Martin County Medical Association and Jackson Surgical Society. He has published many scientific journal articles and made numerous presentations before his peers in various medical settings. Dr. Vopal was honored with the prestigious 2014 Physician of the Year award by Martin Memorial Health Systems. He was chosen by his peers for his outstanding compassion and skilled service to the community.
