Horace Mitchell, MD, FAANS, is an established neurosurgeon with The NeuroMedical Center Clinic in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. While there, Dr. Mitchell served as both an instructor and clinical professor in neurosurgery. Dr. Mitchell joined The NeuroMedical Center in 1996 and is board certified in neurological surgery. He is a member of several professional organizations including the Fellow American Association of Neurological Surgery (FAANS) and the North American Spine Society (NASS). Dr. Mitchell currently serves as Department Chief for The NeuroMedical Center Clinicâ??s Neurosurgery Department.

My mother has a blot clot in the right side of her brain. Is surgery the only option to remove it?
It depends on her symptoms and the size and location of the blood clot. Clots can be outside the brain, such subdural and epidural. They can be inside the brain substance, such intracerebral or intraventricular. Subarachnoid hemorrhages occur in a space intimately close to the surface of the brain. My legs are feeling better. I know my back will never be the same and by Gods grace I will get through my days but the Decompression helped my nerve pain that was running down my legs.... My hip still feels like an ice pic is stuck in my right lower back/hip area.....so if that should go away it hasn't yet.. Thank you Dr. Mitchell I pray I don't ever need surgery again on my back but if I ever do I'll be here to see you!! Tawana Venable
