Usually whenever the term "kidney failure" is used, it is not one kidney, but both kidneys unless she has an obstruction or stenosis of one kidney alone. In the later condition, if her renal function is normal, then she will be alright like someone with a solitary kidney. READ MORE

Depends on the renal function, electrolytes (especially potassium level) symptoms, comorbid conditions like Chf, fluid overload, etc. You can wait till the GFR approaches around 10, if she is active and no other above mentioned problems. READ MORE

What causes recurrent kidney stones? Is there a way to prevent them?
Knowing etiology and composition of the kidney stone will help treat the stone. To know the etiology needs blood work, 24-hr urine testing, etc. Depending on the stone type and the results of the metabolic work-up, there can be treatment.
