Areas of research
My research looks at the methodological challenges faced by the recent and ongoing predilections to understand suicidal Ideation and attempt as symptomatic of an underlying neuropathology. Although neuroscientization of mental illness has a global appeal, American psychiatry has materialized the phantasmogoria specific context of the American psychiatry from multiple angles. The research is multidisciplinary and conducted across various contexts i. e. neuropsychiatric laboratories, support groups, suicide pre/postvention organizations, and psychiatric emergency departments. The biomedical research methods employed in each site come together under the ethnographic methods to shape a contemporary account of the social processes through which multiple and sometimes competing explanations of suicide inform the daily practice of suicide prevention.
My research heavily draws on the first person accounts of people with direct or indirect experiences of suicidality i. e. Veterans of war, LGBTQ, substance users, mentally disabled people as well as suicidologists and suicide prevention experts.
