Throughout her academic career, Dr. Correa graduated with her medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine of the National University of San Marcos in Peru in 1971. She then relocated to the United States, performing her residency and clinical fellowship in psychiatry and behavioral science, with an emphasis in affective disorders, at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. 

Professionally, she was an Attending at Francis Scott Key Medical Center. At the same time, she worked as Director of the Affective Disorders Specialty of the Outpatient Clinic. Dr. Correa was then nominated as the Unit Director of the Acute Inpatient Psychiatric Unit, where she remained for the next seven years. In 1991, she was appointed Director of ECT Suite at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where she worked for over three years. 

Throughout her career at Johns Hopkins from 1981 to 1994, Dr. Correa continuously conducted several clinical research projects and was an Assistant Professor of the Johns Hopkins Faculty. In 1999, she worked at Franklin Square Hospital as Director of the Eastern Community Mental Health Center and transitioned to Director of the Psychiatric Outpatient service for over six years, before becoming the Medical Director of Chesapeake Behavioral Health Center, LLC.

Possessing over five decades of experience in the medical field, she is board-certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting high-quality patient care for the public through the initial and continuing certification of psychiatrists and neurologists.

Psychiatry is the medical specialty devoted to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of mental disorders. These include various maladaptations related to mood, behavior, cognition, and perceptions. Psychiatrists evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders.
