Kaye E. Wilkins, DVM, MD, is a Professor of Pediatric Orthopaedic Service and Dielmann Chair in Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery with the Pediatric Orthopedic Service at UT Health Science Center San Antonio. Dr. Wilkins earned a doctorate of veterinary medicine degree from Colorado State University and received his medical degree from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He did his orthopedic training at Southwestern/Parkland followed by a year's fellowship in pediatric orthopedics in Toronto at the Hospital for Sick Children. He came to UTHSC in 1973 as a faculty member in pediatric orthopedics. Then, for twenty-three years he was in private practice in San Antonio; throughout this time, he remained involved, serving as the training director for pediatric orthopedics at Christus Santa Rosa Children's Hospital. In 2002 he returned full time to UTHSC. He has served as President of the Texas Orthopedic Association and the Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America. He has received the Distinguished Service Award from POSNA and a similar award from the Orthopedic Section of the American Academy of Orthopedics. Dr. Wilkins' particular focus is in children's fractures. He served as a co-editor of the first three editions of Fractures in Children. He has served as a guest lecturer for many conferences on Childrenâ??s Fractures throughout the world. Currently he is involved in COUR (Children's Orthopedics in Underdeveloped Regions), an outreach program of POSNA. With this committee, he has been involved in organizing outreach orthopedic continuing education courses in many developing nations. Dr. Wilkins is a professional member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Texas Orthopaedic Association, The Texas Medical Association, and the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society and served in The United States Air Force from 1967 until 1969.
