  • How quickly does a cataract progress?

    cataracts grow at different rates for different kinds of cataracts. The normal aging cataract can take 3 to 5 years to bother the patient . A cataract call a posterior sub capsular cataract can grow quickly . 6 months to a year . Cataracts that grow peripherally called cortical cataracts can grow over 1 to 3 years. Everyone is bothered by cataracts at their own rate . Some people  notice cataract early on and it bothers them early and others can go years without the cataract effecting them significantly .   • Is cataract surgery effective?

    LASIK can be a very safe procedure for the eyes Only if you are a good candidate You need a very careful screening and make sure your corneas are thick enough to have the procedure . Make sure if you have astigmatism it is not irregular or something called keratoconus  . If you are a good candidate then it is safe If not it is not safe .   • Can I live a normal life with high myopia?

    Yes you cal lead a normal life with high myopia. you need to keep routine eye examinations. Be careful to look for the warning symptoms of retinal detachment Floater flashing light or feeling of a veil or curtain blocking vision .   • Can eye drops cause eye damage?

    Eyedrops can cause eye damage and in rare cases death. There were eyedrops that got contaminated at a manufacturing  plant overseas . This caused severe eye infections . These drops were pulled off the counter. The only safe eyedrops for getting the red out is Lumify it is over the counter and can be used twice a day.   • Is blurred vision after eye laser surgery normal?

    It depends on what kind of laser treatment you had.If it was LASIK or PRK laser then temporarily vision can appear blurry. Usually this clears within a few days .     A lot of eye infections are caused by viruses and can be very contagious . If its a virus non preserved artificial tears that you can buy over the counter will help and cool compresses for comfort.   • Is the LASIK procedure painful?

    There should be minimal pain with LASIK . You can get a pressure feeling in eye for about 13 seconds when creating the flap .     Yes for bacterial infections antibiotics are useful . For fungal infections antifungal drops help. For viral conjunctivitis anti virals help. You would need to go to eye care provider to know which antibiotic could help or if you need antibiotics at all.Some antibiotics have steroids with them and this could cause harm for for some infections .     One cause of irritated red eyes can be dryness. It would be safe to use non-preserved artificial tears bought OTC. The eyes can also be red and irritated from allergies. Pataday drops over the counter twice a day may work. If eyes are irritated after a day or 2 of conservative treatment you would need to see an eye care professional. Professionally, Dr. Adler is affiliated with several hospitals and medical centers in Bradenton, including Manatee Memorial Hospital, Lakewood Ranch Medical Center, Blake Hospital, Outpatient Surgery Centers – Manatee and Sarasota Counties, Premier Surgery Center of Sarasota, and Gulf Coast Surgery Center. Among his various achievements, he was the first to implant the new generation of multifocal implants for cataract surgery.

In addition to being a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the International Society of Refractive Surgeons, he serves as a Board Member on the Manatee Memorial Hospital PHO Committee and the Manatee County Medical Society.

Back in 1982, Dr. Adler earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Science and Mathematics from Muhlenberg College, where he graduated Cum Laude. He then went on to obtain his Master of Science degree in Physiology and Biophysics from Georgetown University in 1983, followed by his medical degree from the Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1987.

Wanting to further his education, he completed his medical internship at the Medical College of Georgia in 1988, followed by his residency at the Georgetown University Medical Center in 1991.

The doctor is board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology, which is an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America.
