What if I miss a week straight of birth control pills?
Please throw out the pack and use a backup method (condoms). Restart new pack on the following Sunday, to keep the schedule, with use of backup for at least 1 wk of the new pack. Bleeding might be irregular until the 2nd pack, it all depends on which week was missed. If you had intercourse during that time, recommend emergency contraception. Also, should take pregnancy test to make sure not pregnant if had intercourse during that time. READ MORE
What is cerclage?
A cerclage is stitch that is placed through the cervix to keep it closed to help prevent pregnancy loss in patients who have had losses due to painless opening of their cervix, and also in pregnancies where the cervix appears to be opening. These patients also are given vaginal progesterone, all with the hopes of preventing a loss. READ MORE
Did my dental x-rays harm my baby? (first trimester)
The x-ray exposure is very minimal and would require many x-rays to cause an Greco. However, it is important to be causious and to use a shield. Please discuss with your OB. READ MORE
Is pregnancy possible after chemotherapy?
This should be discussed with her oncologist. Some women freeze eggs prior to chemo/radiation and it also depends on the regimen. Many women have gotten pregnant and carried to term after and during cancer treatment. Breastfeeding will not be possible with a mastectomy, however. READ MORE
How much Colace can I take while pregnant?
Copacetic is safe in pregnancy. Normal dosage is 3x a day. Please increase fluid intake and more fiber in the diet. You can also use Miralax and other fiber supplements. Please discuss with your Ob or Miswife. READ MORE
How popular are water births?
I do not do water births. It is usually something done in birthing centers and is something you should discuss with your OB/midwife if you decide that it is something you would like to do. It is always an option for low risk pregnancies, but not if you have a complicated pregnancy. READ MORE
If my pregnancy test is negative, why are my periods delayed?
Menses can be delayed by stress or hormonal changes. If only 1 episode, then not that worried. However, if continues, then please get evaluated by you gyn, although could be a change in your cycle. Also, keep a menstrual calendar. READ MORE
Skin rash during pregnancy?
Please follow up with your Ob and Dermatologist to determine what the rash could be. Can use Benadryl and hydrocortisone cream for itch relief, but please get evaluated. READ MORE

Is my constipation normal?
Constipation is never normal. Try to increase your fluid intake and add more fiber in your diet. If it continues, then follow up with your primary care physician. READ MORE
For which kind of infections is the medication Doxycycline recommended?
It is indicated for some vaginal bacterial infections. It is safe if not pregnant. Your sister should speak to her physician to go over the risks and benefits. READ MORE

How can I differentiate between implantation bleeding and periods?
If you have any abnormal bleeding you should go see your gyn! Also, take a home pregnancy test to see if you are pregnant, but definitely go to see your gyn. READ MORE
I am having severe itching in my vagina. Could it be a UTI?
Not everything that itches is a yeast infection. Could be a dermatitis and when you urinate, the burning could be from small cuts caused by scratching. Please go see your gyn or primary care for evaluation. READ MORE
Is it periods or implantation bleeding?
You could take another pregnancy test, but could just be different as menses was delayed. Could just be stress or hormonal. If continues to be abnormal the next month, then go to get evaluated. READ MORE

What could be the reason behind sudden pain around my right ovary?
Pelvic pain could be caused by gas, ovarian cysts, muscle spasm, or nerve compression. If continues and not relieved with pain medication, or increases in intensity, then please go and get evaluated. READ MORE
Ovulation pain
The pain during ovulation is different for everyone, and some people have no pain at all. It is usually do to the enlarging follicle and or the bleeding that can occur. Usually taking pain medication around that time can decrease the symptoms. READ MORE
Are there home remedies to treat vaginal yeast infection?
You can always try probiotics and yogurt, but should be evaluated by your gyn as not everything that itches is a yeast infection. READ MORE
What is the meaning of having negative T-scores?
The only T-score I know is associated with Bone density testing. Please discuss with your gyn what you were tested for and have them explain in detail. Sorry I cannot be of more help. READ MORE

What do you attribute your success to?
Dr. Mestre-Dudley attributes her success to her mother. She says that her mother has always been a very hardworking and independent woman and has instilled those attributes in her. Because of this, she has strived to achieve her goals of becoming a physician, even against all the odds. Everything she has achieved has been due to the support of her mother and also her family. Dr. Mestre-Dudley also attributes her success to her wonderful mentors who have taught her to be a compassionate physician. She says her mentors have taught her the basic knowledge and surgical skills of being an Obgyn, but they have also taught her to think of patients as she would her family, and to always advocate on behalf of her patients.
Teaching and speaking
Dr. Mestre-Dudley has been teaching medical students and residents throughout her career. She has also been responsible for teaching Nursing, PA and NP students in the clinical setting.
