Fluent in Czech and Russian, Dr. Apetauerova is a board-certified neurologist who has more than 20 years of experience in providing comprehensive care to patients with a variety of complex conditions, including Parkinson’s disease and parkinsonian syndromes.
She serves as the Director of the Movement Disorders Center at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington, Massachusetts. The Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, formerly known as the Lahey Clinic, is a physician-led nonprofit teaching hospital of Tufts University School of Medicine that is managed by Beth Israel Lahey Health. Its Movement Disorders Center offers outstanding care to patients who are undergoing deep brain stimulation surgery for Parkinson’s disease, tremor, or dystonia.
Among her academic appointments, Dr. Apetauerova serves as a Clinical Associate Professor of Neurology at Tufts University School of Medicine and as a Visiting Assistant Clinical Professor at the First Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic.
After earning her medical degree from the First Faculty of Medicine of Charles University back in 1989, she went on to complete her internship, residency, and fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. Thereafter, she completed an additional fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Following her education, Dr. Apetauerova became board-certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting high-quality patient care for the public through the initial and continuing certification of psychiatrists and neurologists.
Actively engaged in movement disorder research, the doctor’s areas of research include deep brain stimulation and progressive supranuclear palsy. She has published numerous peer to peer articles, as well as organized local and international medical conferences. Additionally, she is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Neurology and the Movement Disorders Society.
