Jan A. Fawcett, MD, is a leading psychiatrist currently serving as Professor of Psychiatry at the University of New Mexico at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in Albuquerque, New Mexico. With fifty years of experience in the field of psychiatry, Dr. Fawcett specializes in depression and suicide prevention. After earning his medical degree at Yale School of Medicine, he performed his internship at US Public Health Service, served his residencies at the UCSF Medical Center and the University of Rochester Medical Center, and undertook his fellowship at the National Institute of Mental Health Clinic Center. Dr. Fawcett is board certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Due to his outstanding achievements, he has earned many awards for his dedication to excellence in his field, including 50 Years of Service Award from the American Psychiatric Association, Lifetime Research Award for Research in Suicide from the American Association of Suicidology, Research Award from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the Humanitarian Award from the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance, Research in Psychiatry Award from the American College of Physicians, and Award in Research and Depression from the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation. Additionally, in order to stay up to date on all medical advancements in his field, Dr. Fawcett maintains a professional membership with the American Academy of Neurology. Furthermore, he acts as Editor for the Psychiatric Annals Journal, authored a book called Living Forever, which was published in 2014, and is currently working on finishing a sequel.
