Get to know Nephrologist Dr. Nauman Tahir, who serves patients in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Fellowship-trained nephrologist, Dr. Tahir, has a passion for the complex challenges of his specialty and for dealing with primary kidney issues. His focus is on home hemodialysis for end-stage renal disease patients as he believes that it offers great outcomes with a decent lifestyle for these patients.

He was drawn to Las Vegas to build his career because of the talented providers at Kidney Specialists of Southern Nevada and the group’s comprehensive approach to renal care – from early CKD to advanced CKD and ESRD. He recognized that Kidney Specialists of Southern Nevada had the infrastructure to provide comprehensive renal care for virtually any renal problem and he wanted to work in an environment that supported patients in a wholesome manner. 

Born and raised in Pakistan, Dr. Tahir graduated with his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree from King Edward Medical University in 2002. He worked in the United Kingdom and Australia before coming to the United States. He found nephrology intriguing early in his medical training, as he was fortunate to work with fantastic nephrologists who were also great mentors and helped guide him to his career specialty.

With over two decades of experience, he is affiliated with University Medical Center of Southern Nevada, Spring Valley Hospital Medical Center, North Vista Hospital, MountainView Hospital, St. Rose Dominican Hospital – San Martin Campus, St. Rose Dominican Hospitals – Rose de Lima Campus, and Southern Hills Hospital and Medical Center.

As a physician, Dr. Tahir believes effective two-way communication between the referring and consulting physician is essential to effective care and good clinical outcomes. He is board-certified in internal medicine and nephrology by the American Board of Internal Medicine, a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. 

Nephrology is a specialty of medicine and pediatrics that concerns itself with the kidneys. It is the study of normal kidney function and kidney disease, the preservation of kidney health, and the treatment of kidney disease, from diet and medication to renal replacement therapy. Nephrologists have advanced training in treating kidney disease. Valuing family life above all else, Dr. Tahir spends his free time with his wife and two wonderful daughters. Together, they love to travel and explore. He also enjoys watching & playing cricket and table tennis.
