Get to know General, Endoscopic, and Bariatric Surgeon Dr. Amir Aryaie, who serves patients in Roswell, Georgia.

The BMI Surgical Institute in Roswell, Georgia is led by renowned general, endoscopic, and bariatric surgeon, Dr. Aryaie. Very passionate about his job and his patients, he treats them as if they are his own family members, which has been his way of practice from day one. 

Focused on total patient-centered care, he specializes and has extensive experience in robotic surgery, laparoscopic surgery, and minimally invasive anti-reflux surgeries, including hiatal hernia repair, TIF, LINX, and Nissen fundoplication. He is also highly skilled in the latest advanced endoscopic surgeries, including per-oral endoscopic myotomy for achalasia and jackhammer esophagus & gastric per-oral endoscopic myotomy for gastroparesis, which only a limited number of surgeons offer around the United States.

An extremely experienced and knowledgeable surgeon, Dr. Aryaie has conducted thousands of high-quality weight loss surgeries, including sleeve gastrectomy, endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty, gastric bypass, duodenal switch, as well as laparoscopic and endoscopic revisional bariatric surgeries. He has extensive experience with hernia surgeries, complex abdominal wall reconstruction, and colorectal and gastrointestinal cancer surgeries through minimally invasive approach (laparoscopic and robotic) with minimal scar and great outcomes.

Serving on multiple national surgical committees, he is an active member of American College of Surgeons (Fellow), the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (Fellow), and the Americas Hernia Society.

Academically, Dr. Aryaie received his undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia, and then attended the Ross University School of Medicine where he graduated in the top 5 percent of his class. He completed his residency at The Jewish Hospital, an affiliate of University of Cincinnati. Once he finished his fellowship in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, he joined Texas Tech University Health Science Center as an Assistant Professor of Surgery where he served as the Medical Director and Chief of Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas from January of 2018 until November of 2019.

With his effort, he built a remarkable, successful, and comprehensive weight loss center with great results. After his twin girls were born, he and his wife decided to move back to Atlanta to join his family and where he grew up to serve the amazing people of Georgia and southeast United States.

In his professional experience, Dr. Aryaie is affiliated with Northside Hospital Atlanta, Emory Johns Creek Hospital, and Eastside Medical Center.

Licensed to practice medicine in Georgia, Texas, and Ohio, he is board-certified through the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge. 

Bariatric surgery (or weight loss surgery) includes a variety of procedures performed on people who are obese. Long-term weight loss through Standard of Care procedures (Roux en Y Bypass, Sleeve Gastrectomy, and Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch) is largely achieved by altering gut hormone levels that are responsible for hunger and satiety, thereby leading to a new hormonal weight set point. A doctor who specializes in this type of surgery is known as a bariatric surgeon.

A husband and father to two beautiful twin girls, he enjoys reading, traveling, spending time with his family, and working out in his free time.
