Get to know Pulmonologist and Critical Care Physician Dr. IrfanAli Kugasia, who serves patients in Waxahachie, Texas.

Dr. Kugasia is a board-certified pulmonologist and critical care physician whose clinical interests include pulmonary hypertension, interstitial lung disease, as well as shock and ventilator management in critically ill patients. He is in practice with Premier Lung & Sleep Specialists in Waxahachie, Texas.

“Our team is highly skilled in pulmonary and sleep medicine. Following the completion of his medical degree from Government Medical College- Surat in India, Dr. Kugasia relocated to the United States. There, he completed his residency in internal medicine at Lincoln Medical Center- Bronx, followed by his fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, New York. He was always in the top tier performers of the class during medical school and post-graduate training.

A member of the American Thoracic Society and the American College of Chest Physicians, the doctor is affiliated with Methodist Charlton Medical Center, Methodist Mansfield Medical Center, and Methodist Richardson Medical Center.

Furthermore, he is triple board-certified in pulmonary disease, internal medicine, and critical care medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Pulmonology is a medical specialty that deals with diseases involving the respiratory tract. A pulmonologist is an internal medicine physician who specializes in preventing, diagnosing, and treating conditions and diseases that affect the lungs, bronchial tubes, and the respiratory system (including the nose, pharynx, and throat).

Intensive care medicine, or critical care medicine, is a branch of medicine concerned with the diagnosis and management of life-threatening conditions that may require sophisticated life support and intensive monitoring. A critical care physician treats patients who have any medical or surgical illness or operation that requires critical care support – generally life-threatening major illnesses or operations where high-level life support is required.

Happily married with one child, Dr. Kugasia enjoys playing soccer, traveling, and bowling when he is not working.
