  • What causes eyes to not focus together?

Eyes “not focusing together” can mean many different things. If the two eyes are not aligned straight together, this is called strabismus and can require prism glasses or eye muscle surgery to fix. If the two eyes have very different glasses prescriptions or powers, this is called anisometropia and needs an eyeglasses exam with a skilled optometrist or ophthalmologist to find the right prescription for you. If the difficulty is focusing at near due to age (usually after age 45 or so) this is called presbyopia and requires reading glasses or bifocal glasses to fix. Dr. Sean Batson, MD READ MORE

  • Should you take off work with conjunctivitis?

There are different kinds of conjunctivitis including viral, bacterial, allergic, chemical, etc but viral conjunctivitis is quite common though it can be contagious. I do usually recommend not going to work or working remotely if able to prevent infecting colleagues. If symptoms aren’t resolving within a couple days or certainly if they are worse, an exam with your eye doctor is recommended. Sean Batson READ MORE

  • How do I know if I need glasses?

Having to squint in order to see something clearly is a strong sign that glasses would improve your vision. I’d definitely recommend an eye exam to look into it closely. Dr. Batson, MD READ MORE

  • Can dehydration cause blurred vision?

It would have to be pretty severe dehydration to cause this. Dryness of the eye surface is more common and a more likely cause of intermittent blurry vision. Constant or worsening blurry vision should be checked out with an eye exam. Sean Batson, MD READ MORE
