Get to know Nephrologist Dr. Matthew Hartle, who serves patients in Richmond, Virginia.

An exceptional nephrologist, Dr. Hartle joined Richmond Nephrology Associates in January 2016 after practicing in Southside Virginia for three years. He currently serves as the Medical Director at the Fresenius Goochland Dialysis Unit, and welcomes patients at the West Broad location.

Before embarking on his professional journey, he earned his medical degree from Drexel University and completed his postgraduate work at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where he served as a Clinical Instructor. Finally, he finished a three-year nephrology and advanced dialysis fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 2013.

Well prepared to diagnose and effectively treat kidney dysfunction or failure, Dr. Hartle is board-certified in nephrology and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). He believes in providing comprehensive and quality care for each patient he tends to.

Nephrology is a specialty of medicine and pediatrics that concerns itself with the kidneys. It is the study of normal kidney function and kidney disease, the preservation of kidney health, and the treatment of kidney disease, from diet and medication to renal replacement therapy. Nephrologists have advanced training in treating kidney disease. They diagnose and treat kidney failure, as well as help patients by prescribing medications, offering special diet advice, and coordinating dialysis care or kidney transplantation when it becomes necessary.
