He then completed his residency in cardiac surgery at Case Western Reserve University in 1989, followed by his fellowship in pediatric cardiovascular surgery at The Christ Hospital in 1991.

In practice for over four decades, the doctor is board-certified in thoracic and cardiac surgery by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, which is an American surgical organization devoted to surgery of the chest. 

Furthermore, he is board-certified in surgery by the American Board of Surgery, an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.

Among his most notable achievements, Dr. Wilson attained Fellowship status with the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP).
