I believe in a patient-first approach. During every visit, I try to spend time with patients to understand their primary concerns and make sure all of these are addressed. I have spent the last 20+ years working as a physician assistant in urgent care and orthopedics.
For the first 10 years I worked in Vancouver, Washington, focusing on total joints and sports medicine, while also working at local free clinics weekly covering primary care and urgent care concerns.
I spent about 1 and a half years in Scotland working as a physician assistant, while serving as an ambassador for the physician assistant profession in the United Kingdom, working in both emergency medicine and orthopedics.
Upon returning to Chicago, I worked in orthopedic surgery and urgent care medicine in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. Since Moving to Colorado Springs 4 years ago, I have worked for Colorado Springs Orthopedic Group focusing on total joints and sports medicine. For the last 1.5 years I have been the lead provider for Orthopedic Express Care focusing on acute care for orthopedic and all musculoskeletal conditions.
I have provided medical coverage for local college, high school and youth athletics and multiple local marathon races. I am also a member of the United States Olympic Sports Medicine team and have traveled to international competitions with multiple sports. Have published multiple articles in peer reviewed journals. Serve as editor for two national orthopedic journals. Currently I serve as co-director for MSK guide to the galaxy a national orthopedic conference.

Get to know Physician Assistant, Chuck Dowell, who serves patients in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Chuck is a determined physician assistant with over 20 years of dedicated service in the field. He currently serves as the Lead Physician Assistant in the Express Care Clinic at Colorado Springs Orthopedic Group. Before embarking on his professional journey, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science and Sports Medicine from Eastern Washington University in 2001, and earned his Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Rosalind Franklin University in 2004. Finally, he completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in 2005.
For the first decade of his career, Chuck worked in Vancouver, Washington, where he specialized in total joints and sports medicine. Concurrently, he demonstrated his dedication to community health by volunteering at local free clinics, providing essential primary care and urgent care services on a weekly basis.
His passion for healthcare transcends borders, as he spent 18 months in Scotland as a physician assistant. During this time, he not only contributed to emergency medicine and orthopedics but also served as an ambassador for the physician assistant profession in the United Kingdom.
Returning to the United States, Chuck continued his impactful career in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, where he worked in orthopedic surgery and urgent care medicine. His diverse skill set allowed him to provide medical coverage for local college, high school, and youth athletics. Chuck’s involvement extended to multiple local marathon races, where he ensured the well-being of participants.
Beyond local commitments, he is a proud member of the United States Olympic Sports Medicine team. His expertise has taken him to international competitions, where he has contributed to the health and performance of athletes on the global stage.
