How is a stammer treated?
As far as I know, I haven’t heard of any medications related to the treatment of stuttering, not that there may not be trials and such. But getting your son into speech therapy ASAP can greatly increase your child’s chances of eliminating or providing strategies to reduce stuttering READ MORE
My son still can't pronounce his "r's" properly. Would therapy help him?
R normally is not a worry for SLPs until the child is around 7 years old; it’s a late arrival in terms of perfect pronunciation. I’m not sure how old your child is, but an SLP can for sure assist in nailing that R to perfection. The R is by far one of the trickiest sounds to teach because it takes a lot of visual/verbal cues to assist in correct placement. Look up the R Speech Buddy as a good tool, as well as what your SLP recommends for exercises at home READ MORE
What can be done to help my 5 year old son speak more clearly?
If you’re looking for at home additional help, instantly reading and “bombarding” him with correct verbalizations and articulations is always a great informal technique. Read to him as much as you can and when he mispronounces a word, repeat it back correctly so he can continue to hear it. I always recommend a full speech and audiology Eval to rule out underlying disorders or even a slight hearing loss which could be making him misinterpret what he hears which turns into what he is speaking READ MORE
Can high creatinine levels impact speech in a person?
Kidney disease has been known to cause neurological deficits in patients. Although if your MIL is experiencing a change in condition, I strongly urge you to seek medical attention. A doctor could also answer the question better whether or not it is connected, in your MIL’s case READ MORE
My daughter talks with a lisp. Can this be corrected?
Depending on severity and frequency of treatment, some lisps can be corrected or lessened with proper treatment, yes READ MORE
Will my mother regain her speech after her stroke?
Every stroke is different depending on location, type of stroke, and how severe the damage. There are some factors that can aid in predicting improvement including motivation, age, and how soon speech therapy is started as well as intensity of the therapy (how many minutes for how many days of the week). My suggestion would be to push for speech therapy as soon as possible for the greatest chance of improvement READ MORE
Can puberphonia be corrected with speech therapy?
Every person is different with each diagnosis and the effect of treatment and carry over of education, so I can’t for sure say yes it helps or no it doesn’t. It wouldn’t hurt to get an ENT consult and/or an SLP Eval to say for certain if it can be corrected or reduced. My expertise is limited on puberphonia, therefore I am recommending speaking with an ENT READ MORE
Is there a cure for stuttering?
There’s many different factors that can effect stuttering. Have him see an SLP experienced in stuttering. There are absolutely some things they can work on that can aid in reducing stuttering, even at the young age of 46! READ MORE
My son has delayed speech. Should I take him to a speech language pathologist?
All kids develop language differently, but it never hurts to get a full evaluation done by a trained SLP in order to assess the level and potential deficits your child may or may not have READ MORE
My daughter is unable to express her speech clearly. What should I do?
I would suggest getting a full evaluation completed by a trained SLP, as well as getting her hearing checked just to be sure she isn’t speaking what she’s hearing. Hope this helps! READ MORE
My daughter speaks very loudly, should we visit a speech-language pathologist?
Maybe try getting a hearing evaluation done first to see if she’s having trouble hearing others and herself talking, then see where that takes you READ MORE
