I am truly sorry to hear of your loss. You should talk to your OB/GYN about getting on an antidepressant. The reason for this is symptom management so that the brain chemical piece does not get worse. Can psychotherapy harm me?
Anything that we do that is beneficial to us is not without some risk. Therapy can be harmful because you are bringing up instances in your life that are less than ideal and talking about them. First, someone has to want to do something different. While this may seem obvious, there is no amount of willpower or cohesion that will make someone get sober when they do not want to do so. Can depression medications cause more harm?
Medications for depression were never meant to be a stand alone treatment for depression, except for a few rare truly clinical cases of depression. These medications were to help control symptoms while you are in therapy to address the underlying feelings that feed the depression. Any medication you take for a mental health disorder is going to have some sort of side effect and you have the risk of being on these medications long term, and then suddenly have them not work as well or at all anymore.
