  • What type of therapy is best for paranoid schizophrenia?

This is one of the few disorders where talk therapy is contraindicated. Some short term work on coping skills and ongoing monitoring or case management is typically the course of treatment in addition to medications. READ MORE

  • Stress levels?

I am sorry that you are going through this. Do some research on a concept called "moral injury" and perhaps find a provider that is familiar with the term. This I think will give you a framework for how you feel and how to proceed. READ MORE

  • What is the recommended treatment for childhood schizophrenia?

There is no such thing. If a licensed professional told you this, I would suggest finding a different provider. READ MORE

  • What type of therapy is best for dementia?

Unfortunately, there is no talk therapy that can help with dementia. Skill building can help in the beginning with memory tricks and other mechanisms to work around symptoms. READ MORE

  • I am feeling depressed after having a stillbirth?

I am truly sorry to hear of your loss. You should talk to your OB/GYN about getting on an antidepressant. The reason for this is symptom management so that the brain chemical piece does not get worse. You want to then find a therapist that you can work with who can help you get through this time in your life. I have no way of knowing how old this post is, but I hope everything works out for you. • Can psychotherapy harm me?

Anything that we do that is beneficial to us is not without some risk. Therapy can be harmful because you are bringing up instances in your life that are less than ideal and talking about them. This could mean (and usually does) that things can get worse before they get better. It is also possible that the professional that you are working with is not the best choice, or does not have experience with your set of issues, and will not tell you READ MORE

  • What treatments work for drug addiction?

First, someone has to want to do something different. While this may seem obvious, there is no amount of willpower or cohesion that will make someone get sober when they do not want to do so. Once this is decided, the best course of action would be to get an evaluation by a qualified professional. This will determine if there is any risk of withdrawal as well as determine the level of need. READ MORE

  • Can depression medications cause more harm?

Medications for depression were never meant to be a stand alone treatment for depression, except for a few rare truly clinical cases of depression. These medications were to help control symptoms while you are in therapy to address the underlying feelings that feed the depression. Any medication you take for a mental health disorder is going to have some sort of side effect and you have the risk of being on these medications long term, and then suddenly have them not work as well or at all anymore.
