Pablo Moreno Franco, MD is a Transplant Critical Care intensivist at Mayo Clinic Florida. He obtained his MD from the University of Panama and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Rush University and Hospital of Cook County in Chicago, followed by a fellowship in Critical Care Internal Medicine at Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education, Rochester, Minnesota. 

 

At Mayo Clinic Florida, Dr. Moreno Franco has held several leadership positions including Medical Director of the MICU 2013-2016, Medical Director for the Transplant Critical Care Service 2016-2019 and Chair for the Clinical Practice and Quality Oversight Subcommittee 2015-2024. He also served on various committees includingClinical Practice Committee, Medical Emergency Response Subcommitee and Surgical and Procedural Subcommitee; as well as in enterprise roles in the Kern Center Executive Committee and Mayo Clinic Quality Subcommittee 

 

Pablo has been actively involved in educational activities at Mayo Clinic Florida, particularly through the Quality Academy directed towards residents, fellows, nurses, advance practice providers, pharmacists, and respiratory therapists. As the medical director of the Quality Academy he is in charge of educating and inspiring all staff to continuously improve health care quality and as Associate Medical Director Quality Academy, Mayo Clinic Enterprise he is transforming healthcare through education with global applications to learn, certify, reach, engage and publish inquality improvement topics. 

 

Pablo also participates actively in research activities with Center for the Science of Healthcare Delivery, and Acute care research consortium (ACRC). His research interests include sepsis and shock care, delirium prevention, ARDS management, ICU resource utilization, liver transplantation, and extracorporeal life support. 

 

In 2023 Dr. Moreno Franco was recognized as Diamond Quality Fellow which is an elite award. Through this annual award the Quality Academy recognizes a select group of individuals at Mayo Clinic who have shown long-standing commitment to the promotion and dissemination of quality improvement. 

 

As the Department Chair for Critical Care and Medical director of the Quality Academy, Dr. Moreno Franco coordinates quality initiatives in Mayo Clinic Florida, with a focus on early recognition of deteriorating patients, deployment of critical care outside the boundaries of the ICU, harmonization of complex data sets, decision support tools, real-time quality metrics, shared decision making, and early de-escalation of ICU care.
