Get to know Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Shuchi S. Pandya, who serves patients in Florida.

Dr. Pandya, an infectious disease specialist, joined Infectious Disease Associates of Tampa Bay in 2017. Her interests include infections in immunocompromised patients, care of critically ill patients, HIV management, hepatitis C, travel medicine, and antimicrobial stewardship.

Infectious Disease Associates of Tampa Bay is a group of consulting physicians who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of infectious and tropical diseases. Available twenty-four hours a day, the staff is committed to providing the highest quality of care from the management of simple infections to the most unusual of tropical diseases.

Raised in India within a tight-knit and supportive family, Dr. Pandya’s introduction to the field of medicine occurred when her brother faced a severe motorcycle accident, resulting in a shattered jaw. Rather than experiencing fear, Dr. Pandya found herself captivated by the process of his recovery, especially the intricate reconstruction of his jaw.

As time passed, her fascination deepened, and her determination to pursue a career as a physician only strengthened. She graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Biology, after which she completed medical school at Ross University School of Medicine in the Dominica, West Indies with Highest Honors and was recipient of the Dean’s Honor Roll.

Furthering her training, Dr. Pandya chose to complete her residency in internal medicine at Trinitas Regional Medical Center, Seton Hall University in New Jersey.

While in residency in new jersey, she extended her medical expertise as a physician in the Police Athletic League Physical Program in Elizabeth, New Jersey, a teacher to physician assistants in the Seton Hall Physician Assistant Program, a physical exam conductor at the Peterstown Community Center Health Fair for Seniors and was also involved with the Residents as Teachers and Educators (RATE) Program for high school students in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

She relocated to Florida for her fellowship in infectious diseases at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine, where she served as Chief Infectious Disease Fellow for a year and was the recipient of the Jeffrey P Nadler Excellence in Research Award for 2016-2017.

Board certified in internal medicine and infectious disease, Dr. Pandya is recognized as a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

On a professional level, she holds memberships in esteemed organizations such as the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, and the Infectious Diseases Society of America.

Infectious disease is a medical specialty dealing with prevention, the diagnosis, and treatment of infections. An infectious disease specialist’s practice also consists of managing nosocomial (hospital-acquired) infections.

Actively engaging in various charitable and philanthropic endeavors, Dr. Pandya has dedicated her time as an attending physician for both Tampa Bay Street Medicine at the University of South Florida and B.R.I.D.G.E. Healthcare Clinic, a Free Clinic affiliated with the university.

Holding an academic appointment, Dr. Pandya serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine/ Infectious Diseases at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine.

She also currently serves as Chair of Infection Control Committee and Medical Director  as well as Chair of Internal Medicine Department at South Florida Baptist Hospital in Plant City, Florida.
