About

Dr. Self is a licensed and board-certified adult psychiatrist by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She graduated magna cum laude from Texas A&M University, where she competed for their Cross Country & Track & Field teams, earning Academic All–Big XII First Team.

She obtained her medical degree from University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in 2011 and completed residency training at Mount Sinai Beth Israel in New York City, graduating in 2015.

Following residency, Dr. Self served as Physician-In-Charge of the Assertive Community Treatment Program at Mount Sinai Beth Israel, which is an outreach program for patients with severe mental illness in the Lower East Side in Manhattan. Additionally, she worked as an Attending Psychiatrist in the Comprehensive Psychiatry Emergency Program. While there, she also served as Associate Residency Program Director and Assistant Professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

She returned to UTMB in 2018 where she was appointed Co-Director of the Neuroscience & Human Behavior Course in the John Sealy School of Medicine and earned the title of Associate Professor. She served as Attending Physician in the Adult Outpatient Clinic. In 2022, she took on the role of Assistant Dean for Career Advising.

Dr. Self is a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a member of the Texas Society of Psychiatric Physicians as well as past president of the Galveston Psychiatric Society from 2020-2022.

She enjoys spending time relaxing at home with her husband, her border collie named Cru, shelter rescue Jack Russell named Tiller and fluffy cat, Jetty.
