  • Does acupuncture hurt the next day?

Hi there. Thank you for your question. Common side effects of acupuncture are slight bruising, soreness and minor bleeding at area where needle was inserted. If an area where the needle was inserted is causing pain, I would recommend applying arnica cream to reduce the pain. Soreness caused by acupuncture should dissipate within 24 hours. If you are having more discomfort after your acupuncture treatment, please call to let your acupuncturist know so he/she can further assist you. READ MORE

  • How many sessions of acupuncture are effective?

Hi there. Your acupuncturist will first have to determine the root cause of your migraine. For women, migraine can be caused by hormonal changes during menstrual cycle, lack of sleep, skipped meals, anxiety, stress, too much caffeine or caffeine withdrawal and even change in weather. Once your acupuncturist determines root cause of your migraine, he/she will be able to carry out the correct treatment plan tailored to meet your body's needs. Typically, it takes 5-6 treatments to see a big change in your symptom. Thank you for your question. READ MORE

  • Is acupuncture a placebo?

In 2003, the World Health Organization (WHO) published an official report listing 31 symptoms, conditions and diseases that were shown to be treated effectively by acupuncture in controlled trials. “Here at PULSE + NEEDLE, we feel that everyone should be entitled to live a healthy, happy lifestyle. We believe that by providing effective personalized acupuncture treatments at a reasonable cost, we can help guide you back to living the pain-free life that you deserve.” as stated on the practice’s website.

Her journey to Traditional Chinese medicine began in 2004 as a pre-medical student, volunteering at Rui Jin Hospital in Shanghai, China. In 2009, she enrolled in the Master of Science in Oriental Medicine program at the Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine College (AIMC) located in Berkeley, California. While at AIMC, she learned the gentle needling technique of Japanese Acupuncture.

Upon graduating, Makha treated well over 400 patients while interning at AIMC’s school clinic, UC Berkeley Sport Medicine Clinic, and the Jewish Community Free Clinic located in Rohnert Park, California. Since then, she has practiced at the Santa Rosa Community Acupuncture Clinic, and Farmacopia in Santa Rosa. Her background includes training in a wide array of Chinese medicine modalities, such as herbal medicine, fire cupping, tuina/shiatsu massage, and qigong. She understands that each person is different and may have a unique health concern, which is why she feels it is important to enhance and customize each treatment based on the individual’s specific needs.

Acupuncture is a form of alternative medicine and a key component of traditional Chinese medicine in which thin needles are inserted into the body. The practice is also used to maintain general health. Acupuncturists treat a variety of physical and psychological issues like internal medicine hypertension or anxiety.
