Get to know Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor Gloricella Vazquez, who serves patients in Fort Worth, Texas.

Fluent in both English and Spanish, Gloricella is a licensed chemical dependency counselor with MHMR of Tarrant County in Fort Worth, Texas. With expertise in substance abuse with youths, she evaluates patients using many different procedures in order to determine what treatments must be carried out in order to properly assess their symptoms.

My Health My Resources (MHMR) has been a provider of quality mental health and intellectual and developmental disability services in Tarrant County since its inception in 1969. It is the second-largest community center in Texas, offering services in the following areas: mental health, intellectual & developmental disabilities, substance use, early childhood intervention, criminal justice system support, homelessness, and veterans. All of these services are provided in collaboration with community partners in the public and private sector.

“Originally a small center offering only mental health services, MHMR now provides services at more than 100 sites throughout Tarrant County and surrounding counties. The staff of more than 2,000 includes psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, therapists, case managers, dieticians, volunteers, and many others. All are committed to providing services in a way that respects the dignity and basic human rights of the people we serve” as stated on their website. 

Attributing her success to living, learning, and wanting to make a change, Gloricella holds an Associate’s degree in Mental Health, which she received in 2006. She is a local public speaker on testimonials for AA groups.

Chemical dependency is defined as the body’s physical and/or psychological addiction to a psychoactive (mind-altering) substance, such as narcotics, alcohol, or nicotine. A professional can earn the Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) credential by completing relevant education, fulfilling a supervised experience requirement, and performing satisfactorily on a licensing examination. While working to meet requirements, individuals are registered as Counselor Interns (CIs).
