Get to know Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Alexandrea Bartow, who serves patients in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Alexandrea is a board-certified acute care nurse practitioner currently serving as the Director of Clinical Quality Capture (CQC) at the UPMC Wolff Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Physician Studies at the University of Pittsburgh School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences.

Throughout her academic career, she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Seattle University in 2007, and earned her Master of Science in Nursing degree at Loyola University Chicago in 2012. She then went on to complete a cardiology nurse practitioner fellowship at the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences in 2013, and attained her Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Pittsburgh Katz Graduate School of Business in 2019.

A Board-Certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP-BC) is an advanced practice registered nurse that provides care to patients in acute care, hospital, or intensive care settings. This type of advanced practice provider is different from a family nurse practitioner. ACNP’s see patients when they are sick, admitted to the hospital, or after a surgical procedure and/or trauma. Their focus is solely on caring for the adult population (young, middle, and older adults, ages 13 and up) with complex diseases. This certification includes advanced procedures including but not limited to: Intubation & extubation, Lumbar puncture, administering conscious sedation, placing central and arterial lines, and inserting chest tubes.
