Get to know Gastroenterologist Dr. Waseem Ahmed, who serves patients in New York City, New York.

Dr. Ahmed is a skilful, fellowship-trained gastroenterologist who specializes in the care of patients with inflammatory bowel disease. He is affiliated with NewYork–Presbyterian Hospital in New York City, New York.

With a broad educational background, Dr. Ahmed obtained his medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine. He then went on to complete his residency in internal medicine at the New York University Grossman School of Medicine, followed by his fellowship in gastroenterology at Indiana University School of Medicine. He also completed an additional fellowship in advanced inflammatory bowel disease at NewYork–Presbyterian Hospital – Cornell Campus.

Licensed to practice medicine in New York and Indiana, he is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. 

In order to stay up to date in his field, Dr. Ahmed remains a member of a number of professional organizations. These include: the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the American College of Gastroenterology, the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, and the American Gastroenterological Association.

Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine focused on the digestive system and its disorders. A gastroenterologist is a physician who has extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders related to the esophagus, stomach, small intestines, colon, liver, pancreas, and biliary system.
