Get to know Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Nathan Coleman, who serves patients in Stone Springs, Virginia.

An excellent orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Coleman is affiliated with OrthoVirginia, seeing patients at their office in Stone Springs. He specializes in sports medicine and knee and shoulder surgery, performing procedures such as ACL reconstruction, arthroscopic meniscectomy and meniscal repair, arthroscopic rotator cuff/shoulder instability, cartilage reconstruction procedures, knee ligament reconstruction, open shoulder reconstruction, shoulder arthroscopy, total knee replacement, and total shoulder replacement.

With more than 100 orthopedic specialists in over 30 locations in Lynchburg, Northern Virginia, Richmond, Southwest Virginia, and Virginia Beach, OrthoVirginia is the state’s largest provider of orthopedic medicine and therapy. Known for his expertise in sports medicine, Dr. Coleman holds the position of Team Physician for the Loudoun County and Fairfax County public schools. He can also be found on staff at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital, Inova Loudoun Hospital, Reston Medical Center, and Stone Springs Hospital. 

In the past, he was a team physician for Iona College, and as an assistant team physician for the Brooklyn Nets and New York Red Bulls. 

Regarding his educational background, Dr. Coleman earned his medical degree from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 2009. He then went on to complete his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Washington and Affiliated Hospitals in 2014, followed by his fellowship in sports medicine with the Hospital for Special Surgery in 2015.

Licensed to practice medicine in Virginia, the doctor is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.

Achieving professional competence, Dr. Coleman is a member of the American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons and the Arthroscopy Association of North America.

Orthopedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.

Outside of work, Dr. Coleman cycles and races with the OrthoVirginia bike racing team.
