Get to know Cardiologist Dr. Bennet John George, who serves patients in Texas.

A respected cardiologist, Dr. George focuses on standard procedures for coronary artery disease, such as angioplasty and stent placement. Additionally, he thrives on the challenge of complex coronary anatomy and frequently performs high-risk coronary interventions, including those during cardiogenic shock, chronic total occlusions, coronary artery atherectomy, and the placement of percutaneous left ventricular assist devices for cardiac support.

Beyond coronary interventions, he is particularly skilled in minimally invasive procedures, such as transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), which offers a revolutionary approach to treating aortic valve disease. He also has a passion for preventative cardiology, peripheral vascular disease interventions, and structural heart disease interventions, including procedures like Watchman device implantation for stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation patients, and PFO closure for certain types of strokes. Moreover, he is an expert in managing venous thromboembolic diseases, including pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis, and chronic venous insufficiency.

After completing his high school education at North Shore High School, Dr. George pursued his undergraduate studies at Texas A&M University. Following college, he ventured into the corporate world as a research analyst at a prominent Houston energy company. However, he had a desire to make a more direct impact on people’s lives which led him to make a life-changing decision – to attend medical school. He embarked on a medical education journey and completed his medical degree at Ross University School of Medicine in 2011.

Driven by a thirst for knowledge and a passion for cardiac care, he pursued further specialization. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Kentucky, followed by a series of fellowships to hone his expertise. These included cardiovascular disease, interventional cardiology, and an advanced interventional skills fellowship, which focused on peripheral vascular disease and the repair of structural heart disease.

The doctor is board-certified in cardiovascular disease, internal medicine, interventional cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

With a passion for teaching, he serves as an Assistant Professor at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth.

Throughout his career, Dr. George has made significant contributions to the field of cardiology. His research and clinical expertise have resulted in multiple publications in prestigious medical journals like JACC, JACC Cardiovascular Interventions, Catheter Cardiovascular Interventions, and the Journal of Invasive Cardiology.

His decision to return to Houston, particularly the suburb of Pearland, was influenced by his desire to be close to his family. His commitment to compassionate patient care is evident in his approach to medicine. He firmly believes that “knowledge is power,” and strives to empower his patients by helping them truly comprehend their conditions, leading to better overall care.

Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as some parts of the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. Cardiologists are doctors who diagnose, assess, and treat patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels (the cardiovascular system).

Outside of his professional life, Dr. George enjoys spending quality time with his family and pursuing his personal interests. He is an avid sports enthusiast and engages in activities like tennis and golf to stay active. Music is another one of his passions, and he enjoys playing the guitar in his leisure time.
