Get to know Neurological Surgeon Dr. Hamad I. Farhat, who serves patients in Oak Lawn, Illinois.

Dr. Farhat is Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery & Medical Director of Amg Neurosurgery at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Illinois. His primary area of focus is complex spine and brain surgery.

Advocate Christ Medical Center is part of Advocate Health Care, one of the nation’s leading health care networks. A not-for-profit, 694-bed, premier teaching institution with more than 1,200 affiliated physicians, Christ Medical Center is one of the major referral hospitals in the Midwest for a number of specialties, including cancer care; cardiovascular services; heart, kidney and lung transplantation; neurosciences; orthopedics; and women’s health. The hospital provides emergency care for nearly 100,000 patient visits annually and has one of the busiest Level I trauma centers in Illinois.

A graduate of Chicago Medical School, Dr. Farhat went on to perform his internship, residency in neurology surgery, and fellowship at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

An authority in his field, he is board-certified in neurological surgery through the American Board of Neurological Surgery (ABNS). The broad aim of the ABNS is to encourage the study, improve the practice, elevate the standards, and advance the science of neurological surgery and thereby serve the cause of public health.

Licensed to practice medicine in Illinois, Dr. Farhat is affiliated with Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, and Northwest Community Hospital.

From July of 2010 until July of 2014, he worked with NorthShore University HealthSystem.

Neurosurgery is the medical specialty concerned with the prevention, diagnosis, surgical treatment, and rehabilitation of disorders which affect any portion of the nervous system including the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and extra-cranial cerebrovascular system. Neurosurgeons are doctors who diagnose and treat problems with the nervous system, often by performing surgery on the brain or spine. They treat strokes, tumors, certain types of birth defects, infections, and head or spinal cord injuries.

Among Dr. Farhat’s various accolades include Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2014) and Patients’ Choice Award (2018).
