Get to know Neurosurgeon Dr. Michael Raber, who serves the population of Texas. Dr. Raber is a Fellowship trained Neurosurgeon and Assistant Professor with Baylor College of Medicine. He holds over a decade of experience in his field. He holds an expertise in Complex Spine surgery, minimally invasive surgery for adult degenerative and traumatic spine conditions. The Baylor College of Medicine is a health sciences university that creates knowledge and applies science and discoveries to further education, healthcare and community service locally and globally. He first completed his undergraduate degree from the Texas Tech University – Rawls College of Business where he graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing in 2001. During his time there he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Changing his career focus he then attended the Wake Forest University School of Medicine where he graduated with his Medical Degree in 2008. After obtaining his medical degree he completed his Neurosurgery Residency with the Boston Children Hosptial and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Furthering his training he completed his Neuroendoscopy Fellowship, a One year clinical and operative fellowship, under the guidance of Dr. Edward Laws, focusing on endoscopic anterior skull base approaches for sellar and para- sellar lesions, with the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He has completed additional training by completing a Research Fellowship with the Harvard Medical Degree with their Vascular Biology Program, where he focused on basic and translational research on angiogenic protein expression as a potential biomarker in primary and metastatic CNS tumors. Neuroendoscopy is a minimally-invasive surgical procedure in which the neurosurgeon removes the tumor through small holes (about the size of a dime) in the skull or through the mouth or nose. Neuroendoscopy enables neurosurgeons to: Access areas of the brain that cannot be reached with traditional surgery; Remove the tumor without cutting or harming other parts of the skull.
