Get to know Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Jeanne M. Franzone, who serves patients in Wilmington, Delaware.

A fellowship-trained pediatric orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Franzone has been working at Nemours Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children since 2017.

Passionate about providing great orthopedic care to kids and teens, her medical interests include bowed legs, broken bones, foot deformity, clubfoot, knock knees, limb length discrepancy, prosthetics, trauma, orthopedics, and osteogenesis imperfecta — brittle bone disease. She firmly believes that they deserve the very best chance to live an active, fulfilling childhood.

“I’m proud to be part of a dedicated team that’s committed to improving the quality of life for children and young adults. In addition to caring for patients and teaching our residents and fellows, research is an important part of my work — and can lead to improved care and patient outcomes” expressed the doctor.

A 2010 graduate of Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, Dr. Franzone went on to perform her residency in orthopedic surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center in 2015. She followed this up with a fellowship in pediatric orthopedics at Nemours Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in 2016, and a fellowship in pediatric limb deformity at the International Center for Limb Lengthening in 2017.

Dedicated to clinical excellence, she is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.

“My research is focused on improving surgical techniques and orthopedic care for children and young adults with osteogenesis imperfecta. I’m proud to be part of our multidisciplinary osteogenesis imperfecta team, which participates in a multicenter, national research consortium focused on brittle bone disorders. My other areas of active research include pediatric limb deformity and pediatric trauma” stated Dr. Frazone.

Orthopedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Pediatric orthopedic surgeons treat children from the newborn stage through the teenage years. They choose to make pediatric care the core of their medical practice, and the unique nature of medical and surgical care of children is learned from advanced training and experience in practice.
