Is child epilepsy curable?
Unfortunately, there is no simple answer to this question. In many instances, it is. especially if there is an identifiable cause. It is also important to know that there are many different kinds of epilepsy, some of which the treatment is primarily medical with anti-epileptic (anti-seizure) medications, while others require a surgical procedure. The important thing with child epilepsy is to seek expert evaluation with a pediatric neurologist as soon as possible, and once the cause of the seizures can be identified, the right treatment regiment can be started as soon as possible. Early diagnosis and treatment is key. READ MORE
Can I drive a car?
If you have a normal mental status and capacity, good balance and coordination, along with good physical strength throughout, having a skull defect should not prohibit you from Driving. However, you should be wearing a helmet in the car (you should Be wearing a helmet whenever you are out of bed). In addition, if you feel like you are in a condition to drive, you should Be talking to your neurosurgeon about repairing the skull defect (cranioplasty) at this point, especially if the area under the defect is already sunken. Hope this is helpful information. READ MORE
How long is recovery after stroke?
Unfortunately stroke recovery can take time. In the order of months to even up to 1.5 years. Most recovery typically occurs within the first few months then it becomes very gradual. Any remaining symptoms after a year and a half or 2 years out, is most likely to be permanent at that point, and that is when we council our patients and families to learn to adjust/adapt to those remaining symptoms. Hope this is helpful. Best Yinn Cher Ooi, MD READ MORE
