Dr. Peter Sassalos is an Assistant Professor, Department of Cardiac Surgery, Section of Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery at the University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children's Hospital. He is a metro Detroit native and completed his undergraduate degree at Wayne State University receiving a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences Honors. He completed his medical degree at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine graduating Alpha Omega Alpha. He then completed general surgery residency at the University of Michigan where he received multiple honors and recognition from the department and medical school for his teaching efforts. During that time, he also spent an additional two years as a research fellow in the Extracorporeal Life Support Laboratory. He stayed for his thoracic surgery residency and then also completed his pediatric cardiovascular surgery fellowship at the University of Michigan in 2016. He then joined as faculty with interests in the clinical and operative management of patients of all ages with complex congenital heart disease, teaching of students and trainees at each level, and clinical and translational research for these patients.
