Education-wise, her journey began with a solid foundation in biology, culminating in a Bachelor of Science degree earned with honors from Xavier University in Louisiana. She further honed her expertise by obtaining a Master of Science degree in human genetics from Tulane University, followed by the acquisition of her medical degree from the prestigious Wake Forest University School of Medicine in North Carolina.

Thereafter, Dr. Haydel’s pursuit of excellence continued with a rigorous four-year residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of California, Irvine. Her commitment to pediatric pathology led her to complete a fellowship at the renowned Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, where she delved deeply into the intricacies of diagnosing diseases in children. Further refining her skills, she pursued a fellowship in dermatopathology at the University of California, Los Angeles, enriching her understanding of skin disorders.

An authority in her field, the doctor is board-certified in anatomic & clinical pathology, dermatopathology, and pediatric pathology by the American Board of Pathology (ABPath). The mission of the ABPath is to promote the health of the public and advance the practice and science of pathology by establishing voluntary certification standards and assessing the qualifications of those seeking to practice the specialty of pathology.

Remaining up to date in her field, she is an active member of the American Medical Association and the American Society for Clinical Pathology. Her credentials are further solidified by full medical licensure in multiple states, including Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Texas.

Throughout her career, Dr. Haydel has held pivotal roles in various academic and clinical settings, showcasing her versatility and expertise. Notably, she served as a Cytogenetic Karyotypist at Tulane University, under the mentorship of Marilyn Li. She also contributed significantly as a Clinical Instructor of Pediatric Pathology at the University of California, Los Angeles, and later as an Assistant Professor of Dermatopathology and Pediatric Pathology at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston.

Her dedication to advancing medical knowledge has been evident in her collaborations with esteemed institutions such as Global Pathology, an Aurora Diagnostics partner in Miami Lakes, Florida, and GPA Laboratories.

Dermatopathology is a joint subspecialty of dermatology and pathology or surgical pathology that focuses on the study of cutaneous diseases at a microscopic and molecular level. It also encompasses analyses of the potential causes of skin diseases at a basic level. A dermatopathologist is a highly trained physician who specializes in diagnosing disorders of the skin under a microscope.
