Get to know Pediatric General Surgeon Dr. Randi Leigh Sessoms Lassiter, who serves patients in Minnesota.

Dr. Lassiter is a Minnesota-based pediatric general surgeon who treats children who have an illness, injury or disease that requires surgery. She operates out of M Health Fairview Pediatric Specialty Clinic – Discovery & M Health Fairview Pediatric Specialty Clinic – Woodbury.

Her clinical interests include congenital gastrointestinal and abdominal disorders, congenital lung lesions, management of solid tumors in infants and children, pediatric trauma, vascular access, pediatric endocrine surgery, and chest wall deformities.

“I strive to provide the best quality of care for my patients by partnering with parents and other members of their healthcare team to make informed and compassionate decisions” expressed Dr. Lassiter.

A 2012 graduate of Duke University School of Medicine, Dr. Lassiter went on to perform her residency in general surgery at the Medical College of Georgia and her fellowship in pediatric surgery at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in 2019 and 2021, respectively. 

Subsequent to her training, she attained board certification in both general surgery and pediatric surgery through the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.

At the University of Minnesota Medical School, Dr. Lassiter serves as an Assistant Professor within the Division of Pediatric Surgery & as Surgery Clerkship Director.

Continuously advancing her efforts, she is an active member of the American College of Surgeons and the American Pediatric Surgical Association.

General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland. A general surgeon performs a wide range of abdominal surgeries for many forms of intestinal and abdominal wall neoplasms, gallbladder disease, gastric and pancreatic disease. They follow the patient through critical care and surgical recovery all the way to outpatient care.

Apart from caring for patients, Dr. Lassiter enjoys film photography, dancing ballet, and contemporary dance.
