Get to know Trauma Surgeon Dr. Seema Patel, who serves patients in Chevy Chase, Maryland.

A determined trauma surgeon, Dr. Patel is in practice at Chevy Chase Surgical Associates, PC. She can also be found on staff at Sibley Memorial Hospital.

With a broad educational background, she earned her medical degree at the University of California at Irvine School of Medicine in 2008, and completed her residency in general surgery at the Medstar Washington Hospital Center in 2013. He then went on to complete his fellowships in surgical critical care and trauma surgery at the Orlando Regional Medical Center in 2015 and 2016, respectively.

An authority in her field, the doctor is board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.

On a professional level, Dr. Patel is an active member of the American College of Surgeons, the Association of Women Surgeons, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma.

General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and other body systems. A general surgeon performs a wide range of surgeries for many forms of intestinal and abdominal wall neoplasms, gallbladder disease, gastric and biliary disease. They follow the patient through critical care and surgical recovery all the way to outpatient care.

Speaking several languages, Dr. Patel is fluent in English, Spanish, and Hindi.
