Anesthesiology is the medical specialty concerned with the total perioperative care of patients before, during, and after surgery. It encompasses anesthesia, intensive care medicine, critical emergency medicine, and pain medicine. Anesthesiologists have the primary responsibility of monitoring the patient’s vital signs during surgery. In addition to basic measurements such as pulse, blood pressure, and temperature, they measure the patient’s respiration.

Interventional pain management is a method which utilizes pain blocking techniques to help make day-to-day activities less difficult, and effectively restore quality of life for patients. Surgery, electrostimulation, nerve blocks or implantable drug delivery systems may be used as part of the treatment process. Pain management doctors have specialized training to evaluate, diagnose, treat, and prevent many different types of pain.

In his spare time, Dr. Marshall enjoys swimming, playing racquetball, and traveling with his wife and son. He is also actively involved in philanthropic work in the Atlanta community.
