Transforming Patient Care with Expertise and Dedication in St. Lawrence County

With over 20 years of nursing experience, Matthew McLain brings a wealth of knowledge and advanced clinical skills to Canton-Potsdam Hospital in New York, further enhancing the quality of care provided to the community. He is a Board Certified Nurse Practitioner, holding both the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner - Board Certified (ACNP-BC) and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse – Certified Nurse Practitioner (APRN-CNP) credentials. 

Pertaining to his educational pursuits, he earned his Master of Science in Nursing, specializing in Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. His extensive training and commitment to excellence position him as a valuable asset to the Canton-Potsdam Hospital and the broader St. Lawrence Health system.

In addition to his extensive experience, Matthew possesses advanced practice skills in central venous line insertion, arterial line insertion, ultrasound-guided intravenous line insertion, external jugular intravenous line placement, bedside ultrasound (butterfly), thoracic imaging interpretation, lumbar puncture, suturing, and rapid-sequence endotracheal intubation. These skills allow him to provide comprehensive care tailored to the needs of critically ill patients.

Before joining Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Matthew served as a locum provider at both Gouverneur Hospital and Massena Hospital, where he developed a deep understanding of the unique healthcare needs within the region. His dedication to patient care is palpable, as he states, “My goal is to contribute to the continued growth and success of the Hospital and health system while providing the highest level of care to my patients. I am really excited to be continuing my work in the Critical Care Unit where I have spent the majority of my nursing career.”

He is deeply honored to continue serving the residents of St. Lawrence County, having previously worked in Gouverneur and Massena. He is particularly enthusiastic about joining a health system that embraces innovation and prioritizes patient well-being. His commitment to the community is unwavering, and he looks forward to making a positive impact on the lives of his patients.
