Shekhar Patil, MD, MPH, CPE, a distinguished board-certified internist, scientist, entrepreneur, epidemiologist, and statistician, currently serves as the Hospitalist Medical Director at Bayview Physicians Group in Chesapeake, Virginia. With a profound commitment to advancing hospital medicine, Dr. Patil is dedicated to enhancing patient care quality while ensuring high levels of provider and patient satisfaction.

Dr. Patil’s extensive clinical interests encompass critical areas such as sepsis, pulmonary embolism, infectious diseases including COVID-19, and lung cancer. Dr. Patil’s impressive career in medicine began with his Bachelor of Medicine, and Bachelor of Surgery degree from B.J. Medical College and Sassoon General Hospitals in Pune, India. He then pursued his Master of Public Health Degree, specializing in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, at UTHealth School of Public Health in Houston, Texas. This strong educational foundation set the stage for his postdoctoral research fellowships at the esteemed MD Anderson Cancer Center and the John P. and Kathrine G. McGovern Medical School at UTHealth.

Following his rigorous training, Dr. Patil completed his residency in internal medicine at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester, Massachusetts, and earned board certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine. His professional affiliations include active memberships in notable organizations such as the American College of Physicians, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Thoracic Society, the American College of Chest Physicians, and the American Medical Association. Additionally, he holds the distinction of being a Certified Physician Executive (CPE), highlighting his leadership capabilities in the healthcare sector.

Outside of his professional commitments, Dr. Patil leads an active lifestyle. He enjoys riding motorcycles, playing lawn tennis, skiing, embarking on adventurous trips, reading books, and watching movies. This balance of professional dedication and personal interests reflects his holistic approach to life and medicine.
