27 W PARK ST BUTTE MT, 59701About
Katie Crowe, LCPC , M of Coun., is an experienced licensed clinical professional counselor available for individual child, teen and adult counseling sessions with a private practiceserving Butte and the surrounding communities. My office is conveniently located in uptown Butte across from the parking garage and I also offer telephonic and video services due to the impacts of the virus. It thrills me to be part of the mental health community serving my home town by offering a service which can positively impact the neurological development of children impacted by difficult experiences as well as teens and adults in addressing their mental health concerns. I offer individual counseling in a private comfortable office space as well as Play Therapy with a state-of-the-art play room. I have effectively worked with clients of all ages who have experienced social traumas.
Working with children has always been a passion of mine and I am excited to offer this specialty to the population of the Butte area. Play therapy is a specialized form of psychotherapy using techniques to help clients process life experiences through their senses and emotions. Whereas traditional psychotherapy focuses on verbal communication and processing, play therapy emphasizes being in the present moment using tactile, sight, audio and proprioceptive processing. Play Therapy is often not a well-known form of therapy, so I will take this opportunity to further explain its principles.
Play therapy has been around for many decades, but there aren’t many practitioners in the area. Play therapy works best for children who are about 3 to 12 years old. Children are allowed the lead in the therapy. They choose the toys that speak to them, and therapists learn a lot about children’s lives through their play. Experts say children lack the ability to clearly communicate what is going on at a young age. Playing is something they understand. They teach us how they see the world around them and they teach us how they think about people in their lives through their play. Play therapy allows us to intervene and teach kids skills to manage the struggles that they’re going through. In Play Therapy, play is the language and toys are the words.
Play therapy is especially helpful in treating the following issues for children and families:
-depression
-anxiety
-trauma
-trust
-abuse/neglect
-attachment
-relationship
-ADHD
-grief
There are numerous types of play therapy:
•Cognitive Behavioral
•Client Centered
•Sand Tray
•Theraplay
•Directive
•Relational
Allow me to now introduce my background in mental health. I earned my B.A. in Psychology and a Minor in Human and Family Development from the University of Montana. My education continued at Idaho State University for a Masters Degree in Counseling and I completed requirements to become a Nationally Certified Counselor. Following licensure, I worked with all ages for individual counseling services. I gravitated towards any opportunity to work with children and their families in various roles. In addition to individual counseling sessions, I facilitated meetings with families involved with Child Protection who were often in the process of working towards reunification with their children. I worked as an emergency on-call worker with Child Protection for after-hours services. My education has continued toward becoming a Registered Play Therapist the past six years. I worked to create a mental health program at a Child Developmental Center while living in Wyoming. Teaching Love and Logic Parenting classes since 2011 has also been a joy to help parents know how to set appropriate loving limits in their homes to find greater satisfaction and enjoyment in their relationship with children as well as all relationships.
Please share my contact information with individuals who might benefit from individual counseling or Play Therapy. I will gladly follow up on all referrals made either by phone (406) 491-1216 or to my email crowelpc@icloud.com.
At this time I accept Blue Cross Blue Shield, Allegiance and Cigna insurances as well as private pay.
