Get to know Hematologist/Oncologist Dr. M. Bassel Atassi, who serves patients in Evergreen Park, Illinois. Dr. Atassi is a practicing hematologist/oncologist who is affiliated with The Cancer Center at Little Company of Mary (LCM) Hospital. The Medical Group of LCM’s Hospital has been serving families in Chicago’s Southland and surrounding suburban communities since 1994. Dr. Atassi’s philosophy of care states: “I love my patients and treat them like they were family members. There is no time limit when I am talking with the patient and their family as I want them to fully understand the management plan and to feel comfortable in my care. I also strive to keep up-to-date on all new treatment options, techniques and research in the field of Hematology/Oncology so I can provide the best care to my patients.” Dr. Atassi is board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Hematology & Oncology. Dr. Atassi received his medical degree from the Jordan University of Science and Technology. Thereafter, he went on to complete his residency in Internal Medicine at Advocate Christ Medical Center, followed by his fellowship at Karmanos Cancer Institute. A hematologist/oncologist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and/or prevention of blood diseases and cancers such as iron-deficiency anemia, hemophilia, sickle-cell disease, leukemia and lymphoma. This physician is trained in hematology — the study of blood — and oncology — the study of cancer. Dr. Atassi has vast experience in his field, with special interests in solid tumors, lymphoma, leukemia, multiple myeloma and blood disorders. Dr. Atassi attributes his success to the help, support, and encouragement of his parents, family, and friends. In his spare time, he enjoys playing with his two young children and spending time together as a family. He also loves sports, especially soccer and table tennis.
