Get to know Colorectal Surgeon Dr. Michael G. Doorly, who serves patients in Hillsboro, Oregon.

Recognized as the only board-certified colorectal surgeon in Hillsboro and west of Portland, Dr. Doorly is affiliated with Digestive Health and General Surgery at Hillsboro Medical Center. Offering patients advanced colonoscopy, endorectal ultrasound, and rigid proctosigmoidoscopy, he uses the most current minimally invasive techniques to cure malignant and benign disease and treats early rectal cancer using a laparoscopic transanal approach.

The doctor also performs surgical operations for patients with urgent problems such as appendicitis, cholecystitis, incarcerated hernia and intestinal obstruction.  He offers a wide range of elective procedures including port placement for chemotherapy, dialysis and central line placement, hernia repair, skin and soft tissue excision for benign and malignant disease.

Academically, he graduated with his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine. He then went on to complete his residency at the Albany Medical Center, and his fellowship at the LAC+USC Medical Center.

Subsequent to his education, the doctor attained board certification in colorectal surgery and general surgery through the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.

Colorectal surgery is a field in medicine dealing with disorders of the rectum, anus, and colon. The field is also known as proctology, but this term is now used infrequently within medicine and is most often employed to identify practices relating to the anus and rectum in particular. A colorectal surgeon is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of anorectal and colorectal conditions (conditions of the colon, rectum, and anus).
