Mariana Luyando-Smith, PA-C earned her bachelor's degree in Physician Assistant Studies as a National Health Service Corps Scholar from Drexel University in 1998, and a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Still University in 2006.
Mrs. Luyando-Smith has 23 years of experience serving primarily underserved, rural communities throughout Texas. PA Luyando-Smith focuses on the culturally competent management of chronic diseases, preventive medicine, and health promotion. By developing trusting relationships with her patients, she empowers them to improve their health through lifestyle changes and education on their chronic medical conditions. Having emigrated to the United States from El Salvador, Mrs. Luyando-Smith feels heavily the responsibility of sharing her extensive medical experience in Latin America and has traveled abroad as a part of medical mission teams to various parts of Mexico and El Salvador. PA Luyando-Smith has embraced her role of mentor; as chairwomen of triage department and ambulatory adult clinic, she developed best practices to promote growth and efficiency among younger practitioners. Most recently, Mrs. Luyando-Smith has been instrumental in implementing practices and procedures to help manage the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak in her community and has served as a community liaison in the Spanish media.
Outside of her professional work, Mrs. Luyando-Smith enjoys playing tennis and learning new languages with her husband, Dennis. She is also a proud Mimi to her precious grandchildren, Jeremiah and Olivia.
