Dr. Melissa Arief is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hand, wrist, and elbow surgery in the north Houston area. Dr. Arief graduated with both general and departmental honors from Vassar College where she earned her B.A. in biochemistry. She then earned a combined Medical Doctorate (M.D.) and Masters of Health (M.H.S.) specializing in translational research at Yale School of Medicine in New Haven, CT.
Dr. Arief completed her residency at the State University of New York Health Science Center (SUNY) Downstate in Brooklyn, NY. While attending SUNY Downstate she presented numerous papers at annual meetings of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH), American Academy of Hand Surgery (AAHS), and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery (AAOS). She received multiple awards for her work including the honor of presenting the top paper at the ASSH Meeting in San Francisco in 2014.
Dr. Arief continued her education by completing her fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery at The Philadelphia Hand Center affiliated with Thomas Jefferson University where she trained with world-renowned hand surgeons in all of the latest and most up-to-date surgical procedures and techniques.
Born and Raised in New Jersey, Dr. Arief moved to Houston in 2016.
She is now excited to be a part of the Baylor St. Luke's Medical Group.
