Get to know Psychologist Dr. Joann Vaccaro, who serves patients in Oceanside, New York.

Dr. Vaccaro is a psychologist who is affiliated with Oceanside School District in Oceanside, New York. There are 854 full-time employees, of which 440 are teachers. The overall mission of Oceanside School District is to develop future leaders by supporting healthy physical, social and emotional growth as well as academic mastery while also building community.

Dr. Vaccaro is a member of the Association for Advancement of Behavioral Therapies and the American Psychological Association. Dr. Vaccaro is married with three children. In her spare time, she enjoys teaching dance and bicycling. Dr. Vaccaro attributes her success to growing with experience and receiving support from her colleagues. Her love for working with children is what inspired her to go into this profession. 

Dr. Vaccaro earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from New York University in 1994. She then went on to earn her Master of Arts degree in clinical psychology from Hofstra University in 1996, followed by her Doctor of Philosophy in clinical psychology from the same university in 2000. 

Psychology is the science of behavior and mind. It includes the study of conscious and unconscious phenomena, as well as feeling and thought. Through counseling and experimentation, psychologists, like Dr. Vaccaro, work to promote safety, understanding, and good mental health. They work in research, teaching, and clinical practice to help patients understand themselves and cope with day-to-day issues, mental illness, abuse, addiction, and loss.
