Get to know Pediatric and Adult Cardiovascular Surgeon Dr. Sameh M. Said, who serves the population of Minnesota. He practices with the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital and the University of Minnesota Health Heart Care – Minneapolis, Clinics and Surgery Center. Dr. Said graduated with honors with his Medical Degree from Alexandria University, in Egypt, in 1998, giving him over two decades of experience in the medical field. After obtaining his medical degree, he completed his internship and his initial cardiothoracic surgical residency with Alexandria University. He practiced in Egypt until relocating to the United States. He is still affiliated with Alexandria University, where he currently serves as a Lecturer of Cardiothoracic Surgery. After relocating to the United States in 2005, he completed a Fellowship in Cardiovascular Surgery in 2008, followed by full residency in the Joint General and Thoracic Surgery residency program at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. During his residency he received numerous awards such as the “O.T. Clagett Resident Travel Award” for Excellence in Clinical and Academic Work. Furthering his training he completed an additional accredited Congenital Cardiac Surgery Fellowship at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital, Stanford University in 2015. Dr. Said is tri-certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery and Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery and Congenital Cardiac Surgery by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. He is currently licensed to practice in the state of Florida, Arizona, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, as well as in his home country of Egypt. Dr. Said holds an expertise in congenital heart surgery for the neonates, infants, children and adults with Congenital Heart Disease. His special areas of interests include Ebstein anomaly, Functional Single Ventricle, Pulmonary Atresia and Unifocalization Procedure, Pulmonary Artery and Branches Rehabilitation, Ross procedure, Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM), and other forms of Left Ventricular Outflow Tract Obstruction, and complex cardiac re-operations. To stay up to date in his field, he remains a professional member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS), Southern Thoracic Surgical Association (STSA), Western Thoracic Surgical Association (WTSA), American College of Surgeons (ACS), European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgery (EACTS), and the International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery (ISMICS), American Medical Association (AMA), and Egyptian Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons (ESCTS) among many other organizations.
