Get to know Internist Dr. Deepu R. Thoppil, who serves patients in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

A New Orleans native, Dr. Thoppil is a board-certified internist who is affiliated with Merit Health Wesley in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. 

Merit Health Medical Group is a multi-specialty physician group that includes more than 80 locations and more than 100 physicians. It is affiliated with nine hospitals in Central Mississippi: Merit Health Biloxi, Merit Health Central, Merit Health Madison, Merit Health Natchez, Merit Health River Oaks, Merit Health Rankin, Merit Health River Region, Merit Health Wesley and Merit Health Woman’s Hospital.

Prior to joining the internal medicine team at Merit Health Wesley, Dr. Thoppil served as a hospitalist at West Jefferson Medical Hospital in Marrero, Louisiana.

A graduate of the Medical University of Lublin in Poland, he relocated to the United States to complete his residency in internal medicine at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center New Orleans. Before long, he became board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. They manage and prevent common and complex diseases by providing comprehensive care and promoting overall well-being.
